The name of the city, Mumbai, earlier known as Bombay (named by the Portuguese), is supposed to be derived from Mumba or Mahaamba, the Hindu Goddess and Aai meaning mother in Marathi language.

It is supposed to be the second highest densely inhabited city and fifth most populated metropolitan city in the world. The place is situated on the western coastline of India.

Gateway of India
It is the most famous monument in Mumbai. It is located in Colaba, the southern part of the city. It’s famous for its Indo-Saracenic style of architecture. It was constructed in 1924.

The Siddhivinayak Temple
Dedicated to Lord Ganesh, it is one of the richest temples in Mumbai. The idol of Lord Ganesh is made with a single black stone. It is located in Prabhadevi.

Kanheri Caves
Located in the outskirts of Mumbai, these rock clusters and caves reveal the predominance of Buddhist culture in the making of art and architecture of India. Basaltic rock outcroppings had been used to create these caves. They have 109 special entrances.

Essel World
Located in the Gorai Island in Borivali, Essel World is famous for fun rides, games and sporting activities. Mostly loved by children, it is also acknowledged as one of the first amusement parks in India.

Mahalaxmi Temple
Dedicated to Goddess of Wealth, this elegant temple was constructed in 1785. The deities in this temple are Goddess Kali, Saraswati and Laxmi. Do not miss to celebrate the festivity of Navratri in Mahalaxmi Temple.

Princes of Wales Museum
Located on M.G. Road, this museum is famous for the rare collection of artefacts, ancient sculptures and ancient artworks. Its admirable architecture includes its name in the list of heritage architecture in Mumbai.

Haji Ali Dargah
It is a tomb and a Dargah, a revered pilgrimage site for Muslims. Preserving the sepulcher of saint Haji Ali Shah Bukhari, devotees from all the faiths visit this pious place. It is located 500 yards into the Arabian Sea.
